The Best Thing to Do Before Selling Your Home

Selling 1

There is very little else that can stress you out more than when you go to sell your home. There is a lot to do, and you likely already have a home lined up that you are excited about moving into. It is no surprise that many people find the whole process overwhelming. There are lots that you can do and so it can be handy to have a checklist to guide you through it. This list is not exhaustive, but it will give you a good starting point for you to begin.

Decluttering your space

It will likely surprise you how much you have accumulated over the years. When you are living amongst it, it is easy for you to carry on and horde it somewhere in your home. However, when you are about to move, you need to begin thinking about what you are going to do with all of your stuff. You should set up four piles. One for storing and moving, one for sale, one for donation, and one for the dump.

This will help you organize your belongings and thoughts. Just remember to only keep things that you need or that you use.

Touching up

There are likely things that you have been living with for years that no longer bother you but will stand out to any potential buyer. For example, parts of paint that have been chipped off or have faded, skirting boards that have started to come away, or flooring that is marked will all stand out to a prospective purchaser. Make sure that before you put your home on the market that you give everything a fresh lick of paint and straighten up any jobs that you have been putting off.

Maximizing your exterior

Within a few seconds, people have begun to make opinions and judgments on your property even from the outside. This can massively impact how likely they are to buy your property and how much they are willing to forgive. If you have a garden area, then you should make sure that you highlight this feature by getting it into good condition and maintaining it. Equally, you should make sure that your pathway and front of the house look in good condition. You’ll be surprised how much a missing tile from the roof can negatively affect your chances of selling your home.

Modernize the kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most valuable rooms in your home. If it looks dark, damaged, and dingy then your prospective purchaser will be immediately put off. However, you do not need to buy an entirely fresh kitchen. There are plenty of hacks that can make your kitchen look fresh without spending too much. You can reface your cabinetry to bring the freshness back and give a new coat of paint to the room. It can add huge value to your home.

Selling your home

Selling your home is never easy and it will be forever stressful. However, there are plenty of things you can do to market it. Make sure to tackle this over some time and don’t rush into anything. It can make all the difference to your final price.
