LED Neon Signs1

LED Neon Signs are a great way to add some color to your outdoor area or even create a fashionable look in your home. They will also make any room feel more lively and interesting, which is always welcome during the winter months. That being said, such LED signs can be tricky to assemble for those who aren’t very experienced. If you don’t have an idea of where to start, you can check out Neon Mama.

In the last few years, the demand for LEDs has created an opportunity for customers to save energy and money by installing LED lighting fixtures over their traditional light sources and fluorescent lights in retail environments. LED lighting is offered in many sizes and styles. Brightness is measured in lumens.

Firstly, you’ll need to decide what you want your sign to say. One of the most significant parts of creating your own LED Neon Sign is coming up with a design to use. This can be as simple as a favorite saying or something more intricate than your business name and logo. Once that is decided, you will need to find a font style online that will print well when put together in this format. If you don’t know how to design a font, we suggest asking someone who does or finding an actual font online that you like.

LED Neon Sign kits

You can find design kits needed to make your own LED sign for under $100. After you pick the letters from the font that you like, print them on regular printer paper. Cut out the letters, and then glue them onto a piece of foam board. You can use Gorilla Glue for this because of how strong it is.

Next, you will need to cut out the holes for your LEDs to go into. A strong and sharp knife for this part would do. You want to make sure that your holes are at least 1 inch away from the edge of the board. Space them about 2 inches apart.

Soldering Wires

Once your board is done, you can start wiring everything up. The first thing you want to do is solder wires onto your current regulator. This step is important because you will be attaching your LEDS’ power leads to these wires.

The next thing that needs to be done is to solder wires onto the back of your LEDs. This step is really important, and it will help you out a lot in the long run. This will give you a way to connect the positive and negative leads of each LED without having two thick wires coming off of them all the time that will get in the way when putting your sign together. Once this is done, you can simply connect these wires to the positive and negative leads of your current regulator. Make sure to solder them in place well and that there is a good solid connection. You don’t want to have any problems with this step.

The next step in making your LED Neon Sign is to hot glue your LEDs into place. For this step, just add a little bit of hot glue before placing the led in the hole and then push it down to make good contact with the board.

Now would be the time to start wiring these LEDs together. We recommend taking some wire and wrapping it around one of the LEDs so that you can securely connect all of them in series (from the positive lead of one to the negative lead of the next.) Once this is complete, you will want to take another piece of wire and put it through the holes you cut out in the foam board. This will give you a way to connect each led to your power supply.

Lastly, you will need to cut holes in your actual sign for the power supply and both ends of the cables. For this step, you can use the strong knife again. Just make sure that all of your holes are lined up with where they should be on your board (Use Gorilla Glue for this part, just in case). Once you’ve done this, you can connect it to a 12-volt power supply and attach the two positive leads of each led together with the soldering iron.

That’s pretty much the whole process of making your own LED Neon Sign. This kind of project can take a few hours at most, but it will come out looking fantastic!
