What hot fudge is to ice cream is what interior design is to real estate. Yes, you can have both real estate and ice cream independently, yet how much better are they when they are paired. Now that 2018 is behind, and we’ve ushered in 2019, it’s time to not only refresh wardrobes, but update homes as well.
Just as in fashion, interior decor can become stale and in need of an update. It’s easy to have your home look outdatedwith something as simple as the wrong color paint on the wall to more significant issues like cherry-wood cabinets or older flooring. Regardless of the spectrum you fall on, if you’re a homeowner looking to freshen up your decor, here are five of the best interior design trends for 2019.
1.Edgy, Rich Jewel Tones
The Toronto Boutique Apartments are the best examples of this trend. The site has a great variety of short-term rentals in Toronto. The key to the rich jewel tone trend is to start with a crisp, clean palette such as white (or black, depending on how edgy you want to go) for the base. By using white as the base, it will allow the color to “pop” and create the contrast. The jewel tone trend can be found in bedrooms, dining rooms, and living rooms. Look for velvety bordeaux, rich teal, deep emerald green or bold chartreuse. Jewel tones can be found in beautiful artwork, accents, and rugs. The options are limitless.
2.Biophilia
The biophilia hypothesis, which is also called BET, introduced by Edward O. Wilson as “the urge to affiliate with other forms of life… suggesting that humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life.” In other words, just as much as we’re obsessed with technology, we also yearn to connect with nature. Thus, when the time comes to furnish and decorate the house, we gravitate to organic materialssuch as wood (floors), stone (walls), and plant life. Think of it as bringing nature inside the home.
3.Soft, Feminine Tones
On the opposite spectrum of jewel tones, 2019 is also going for soft, feminine tones such as blush, dusty pink, and bronze (goodbye, grey). Warm and feminine hues will be perfect accent colors to add that “feminine” touch. The warm colors will add warmth to taupe, khaki, and other earth tone neutrals.
4.Bold Walls, Floral Fabrics, and Wallpapers
Gone is the one-accent wall trend. Meanwhile, another rising trend is painting on the ceiling, which is now being replaced by painting the whole room bold, dramatic colors. On the opposite of the bold colored walls are floral-patterned wallpapers.
5.Light Wood Floors
Just like cherry-wood cabinets are outdated and need to retire, so are the corresponding dark cherry-wood floors. Instead of cherry-wood, opt for light-colored floors. Light-colored floorsare making a major comeback. The main reason for the resurgence is that it gives any room a more open, airy, and light feel as they reflect more natural light.
