An opener is a motorized unit that helps open and close the garage door controlled by the switches on your garage wall. The garage door opener acts as an operator that manages the garage door’s weight to ensure no blockage in the door’s pathway.

This article talks about the various types of garage door openers. In this way, you can choose a suitable opener for your garage door. You also have to make sure it is installed properly. It is better to contact a professional garage door service for a garage door opener installation.

Metal-to-metal garage door opener

Typically, a metal-to-metal or chain-drive garage door opener is the most commonly used opener by garage owners. For years, the chain-drive opener has been known for its availability and affordability.

In terms of how good a chain drive is, the effectiveness of this opener is high, but chain-drive has a disadvantage too. When the chain-drive helps to open your garage door, it will produce an annoying sound because of the metal-to-metal contact with the door.

On the other hand, if you think that your chain-drive garage door opener might fail eventually or are on the verge of falling, replace them with new garage door openers. The contemporary type of chain-drive opener has less noise than your old one.

Belt-drive Garage Door Opener

The belt-drive garage door opener is more effective than the chain drive opener. This opener unit reduces the noise when opening a garage door. That’s because this opener uses a rubber belt that drives the motor on your garage door. In this way, you can peacefully use your garage door.

When it comes to functioning, they have similarities. Both chain drive and belt drive push and pull the trolley to drive the motor that opens and closes your garage door. So, if your bedroom is placed over your garage door, ensure that you use a quiet type of garage door opener.

The chain drive door opener might be a little expensive over the chain drive. The chain drive can cost around $30 and can go up to 60$, depending on the features you want to add.

Jackshaft Garage Door Opener

In contrast with the chain-drive and belt-drive garage door opener, this unit is mounted on the right or left side of your garage door. So instead of overhead openers, this model is placed on the wall to prevent any damage to your car.

Compared to the first two openers above, this model is quieter and has a reliable system. Additionally, the jackshaft garage door opener has a 24 volts dc motor that operates the pulleys and cables. If you want to close your garage door, the dc motor will reverse; causing the wires to loosen then your garage door will close immediately.

This type of model is suited for those garages that have high or low roofs. In this way, you can keep your roof free from overhead storage. But, a jackshaft garage door opener is a costly model compared to the other garage door opener.

Direct-Drive Garage Door Opener

One good advantage of a direct-drive garage opener is it’s claimed to be the quietest opener among the rest. This type of garage door opener has only one running part, and that is the motor.
