Easy Ways to Modernise Your Property

Have you just moved into your new property? If so, you’re not alone. The property market is booming right now, thanks in part to the stamp duty holiday being extended and many people managing to save money while working from home in the last year.

It’s unlikely that the property you’ve bought will be to your exact taste. The people you buy from will have different ideas about décor to you.

Plus, with houses being snapped up within days of the ‘for sale’ sign going up and the market having to adapt to demand, it’s likely that buyers are currently grabbing properties that are in the right location and tick other boxes, but they need a little work, rather than being the finished thing. If this sounds familiar, it may be that you’ve bought a lovely house that’s in need of some modernisation.

To help you make some changes that will bring your new home right up to date, here are some modernisation ideas.

Refresh the walls

2

The chances are the colour on the walls isn’t to your taste. Even a feature wall – so popular a few years ago – has been declared to be dated by interior designers in the last year.

Removing old wallpaper and changing the colour palette on the walls can transform a space in no time. Brighten up the room with light, airy neutrals such as light greys and warm white tones and you’ll notice how much bigger everything looks.

Replace the radiators

Radiators have undergone a transformation recently, with different styles on the market. As a result, traditional designs can look old-fashioned.

If you’re trying to resolve the issue of the radiators in your new home, instead of investing in blocky radiator covers that take up precious space, try shopping around for fresh designs. Oil filled electric radiators, for example, are a sleek, chic addition that can become a feature of the room rather than something you hide behind the sofa.

Upgrade the flooring

3

Are the carpets looking tired? Do the floorboards need some TLC? An easy, yet effective update to how your floors look can make a huge difference.

Invest in carpets that are likely to last and choose a colour that will open the space up. Alternatively, if you love a wooden floor, look at the condition of existing boards and make replacements. You may find that the wood needs to be buffed and sanded, but it’s worth the effort.

Look at the bathroom and kitchen

It may be that a simple lick of paint is all the kitchen needs or it may be that you need to take it all out and start again. Kitchens and bathrooms are key rooms in any property, and you need to be happy with how they look.

In many cases, it’s unlikely you’ll have to start from scratch. Retiling walls and floors can be a simple, effective job that transforms the space.

How does your property look? What updates will you make to your home?
