Moving 1

Moving out of home is as exciting as it is stressful. There is so much to do, and the big day always comes a lot quicker than you expect! To help you manage this rite of passage, here are six things to prepare in advance for your big move:

1. Quality Cookware

Many people turn to regularly eating out or ordering takeout when moving out of home because of a misconception that owning all the right cookware is too expensive. This is simply not true. With a quick search online, you can certainly find an affordable cookware set that is durable and high-quality. Prioritize a set that has all the staple items like pots, pans, and strainers, and you’ll have your cookware shopping done all in one go!

2. Remember all your linens

They are one of the ‘boring’ items on the list but that’s precisely why many college students and young adults forget to pack enough linens when moving home. This includes your shower towels and items like:

  • Extra Bath towels
  • Face towels
  • Beach towels
  • Cleaning rags
  • Microfibre cloths
  • Tea towels
  • Table cloths

You don’t need a lot of them for just yourself, but most of these items are used every day, so you definitely want to make sure you have spares.

3.  Cleaning Supplies

When you get caught up in the excitement of decorating and furnishing your room, it can be easy to skip thinking about cleaning until you need to wash your hands. So, make sure you have the following:

  • A mop
  • Broom and/or vacuum
  • Dish soap
  • Laundry soap or powder
  • General cleaning agent for mopping and surfaces
  • Hand soap and moisturizer
  • Cleaning rags or cloths

You can narrow the list down by choosing an all-in-one multipurpose cleaning liquid, which can be just effective as specific cleaners.

4. Living Room Furniture

If you are moving into an unfurnished home, it can be easy to overlook the responsibility of setting up your living areas. If you have a big space or plan to spend a lot of time in your living room or communal space, then you should consider comfortable sitting furniture like couches, bean bags, or reclining chairs.

Consider which types of entertainment you will include in this space. Do you need a TV, a projector, speakers, or a sound system? What about a reading nook, complete with an aroma diffuser and some cozy blankets? The perfect living room will look different for every person, so plan yours out, and then have some fun finding all the bits and pieces to make it happen.

5. A Basic Toolbox

Some basic tools are useful to keep around. Things like hammers, screws, a variety of screwdrivers, and hex keys can come in handy. These may be needed if you have issues with your furniture or decorative elements. A collection of sticky tape is great to have on hand for when you need to quickly fix things.

6. A First Aid Kit

A simple first aid kit at home is essential. Include things like wound care, burn and after-sun care, painkillers, cold compresses, and anything else you may need such as allergy medication if it applies to you. Make sure to keep your first aid kit somewhere secure and easy to get to, like in a bathroom cabinet or your bedroom. And always keep it stocked up!

Once you’ve covered all these essential items, the fun part is next – decorating your space and truly making your house your home. Happy moving!
