Rustic Decor 1

The materials used in rustic decoration are elements of nature: stones, bricks, metal, wood, concrete and fabrics. The rustic style matches any room in the house and provides warmth and comfort. The colours used for rustic decoration resemble nature, such as shades of blue, green, white and red.

A rustic decor is a great option for those who want to make the environment more elegant, charming and cosy. Industrial ceiling lights bring a more stylish atmosphere to the environment.

Rustic style in decoration

Rustic refers to raw and pure materials. If we use the term rustic in the field of architecture, it refers to natural elements with the roughest texture, such as: stone, exposed brick, wood, metal and concrete.

But where and how did the rustic style in architecture come around? The origin is in the history of humanity itself and the first constructions using natural materials, such as stone, wood, metal and earth.

The first book to feature rustic furniture designs was published in 1754 in England. “A New Book of Chinese Designs” by Matthew Darly, George Edwards and Joseph Champion shows how Europeans admired and felt inspired by Chinese gardens. Soon after, the style spread in Europe. England and France were the main hubs of rustic decoration.

The elements have been the basis for architecture since man started building houses out of caves, so we can say that rusticity will always be a character in architecture and decoration. This is especially evident in the natural designs of lodges and cabins that are scattered throughout the US midwest. Although custom timber frame homes were originally built out of necessity, they remain one of the most popular rustic designs to this day.

How to use the rustic style at home

Rustic decoration can be used in any room of the house. For example, in the kitchen, using wood and stone cladding is a very striking style. In the bedrooms, wooden beams and furniture set the tone for the decoration. With the right lighting, it looks very stylish.

The rustic style blends into any room of the house. Just mix several pieces in the same room to suit your needs. If you want to warm up a room, you can use materials such as wood or fabrics such as linen.

But beware of excessive use. Any material that is not well implanted becomes unbalanced in the space. It is very interesting to use the rustic with modern, more technological materials, to obtain more contrast. However, it is necessary to establish harmony between the materials.

Matching colours with the rustic theme

Since this is a decoration style that uses plenty of natural materials, the matching palette is reminiscent of nature – such as earthy tones, greens and blues. The most fitting colours are blue, white, green and red (reflecting clay). Metallic or coppery colours also work very well because they reflect iron and copper. However, vibrant colours may go against the cosy feeling provided by the rustic style.
