With thousands of clubs and golf retirement communities to choose from – it can be challenging to find what works best for the majority of all golfers. Twenty years ago, when I was a two handicap golfer in New Jersey, I went through a 6-month search to find the best golf retirement community that meets my needs of being affordable and located in an area where golf could be comfortably played 12 months per year.
I searched all over Florida but found the majority of areas too crowded. I also decided that the weather (with fears of hurricanes and humid/hot temperature) was not a good fit for me.
I love the shore communities – but with expensive/increasing hurricane insurance, and way too much traffic during the summer months, I continued with my search for the ideal retirement community. Finally, I visited Pinehurst, The Home of American Golf. Today, after living in Pinehurst, NC, I believe that I have the best golf retirement community in the US. Pinehurst is a great place to live and an easy place to meet people and new friends. I am a member at nine championship golf courses for the membership rates listed below. Membership to 9 championship golf courses for about $532/month, including the Pinehurst no. 2 US Open Course. Pinehurst Country Club is located about 60 miles from Raleigh and the Raleigh International Airport. Pinehurst Homes with a transferable membership to the Pinehurst Country Club range from $200,000 to $3,000,000+.
In addition to the Pinehurst Resorts, the following describes several other golf course communities in the Pinehurst area.
Forest Creek Country Club – Private Gated 36-Hole Golf Course Community
The Forest Creek Country Club is a gated golf community with two championship golf courses designed by Tom Fazio. The sand, soil structure, and the pine trees – allowed the creation of two fantastic golf courses that look like they came from two different areas. Both courses at Forest Creek have a reputation of having some of the finest putting surfaces in the game. The spectacular recently completed clubhouse is located next to the men’s locker room that was recently rated as one of the best in the US.
Located on Airport Road, Forest Creek is about a 5-minute drive from the Pinehurst Village. House prices range from $500,000 to $2,000,000+.
Pinewild Country Club – Private Gated 36-Hole Golf Course Community
Pinewild, the area’s largest gated golf community, offers its residents a serene and private lifestyle, with spacious lots and pristine views surrounded by two of the most beautiful golf courses found anywhere in the world, one of which was designed by the legendary Gary Player.
This gated golf community has 2/18-hole championship golf courses, tennis courts, a pool, a large driving range and short-game practice area, and a beautiful clubhouse. Pinewild homes are situated on larger than average lots (>0.8 acres) and have an average selling price of about $500,000. In addition to fantastic golf, Pinewild CC also offers a very nice clubhouse, swimming and professionally maintained tennis courts. Homeowners are not required to join Pinewild CC and can opt for a membership to the Pinehurst Resorts, CCNC, and Forest Creek golf courses. Call Dale at 910-528-4652 for additional information.
Located on Linden Road, Pinewild is about a 5-minute drive from the Pinehurst Village. House prices range from $350,000 to $2,000,000+.
CCNC Country Club – Private Gated 36-Hole Golf Course Community
CCNC, located near the best area shopping, restaurants, and the Pinehurst Village, is one of the most prestigious clubs in the US. CCNC lies on over 2000 acres of land which include three lakes (the largest, Lake Watson, is sixty acres) and 2/18-hole golf courses of world-class caliber. Both CCNC courses are rated in the top 15 in North Carolina and the Dogwood course has been rated as one of the top courses in the world.
