How To Organize Your Desk

1. Triaging your stuff

You need to see your desktop as prime real estate, and more than half of what is on it is things you don’t need. A good way to cull your things is to: get to work on Monday morning then remove anything that is not important from the desktop and put them on the floor. If you need to use something, take it from the floor and put it on your desk. If you have not used something after a week, then find a place to store it – a supply closet, a drawer, or even the recycling bin.

 2. Going with your workflow

Most people operate using the left-to-right tendency. This means they put income items like the computer, inbox, telephone, and other devices on the left, leave a workspace in the middle, and then the outgoing items like completed paperwork and staplers on the right. How you arrange your desk is going to be determined by how you operate. Invest ina new desk that suits you from Teslyar.com. Try out the different arrangements then choose one that feels natural to you.

 3. Saving the space

Your stress levels can increase when you want to spread out or sign paperwork but you don’t have enough empty space to do it. You should have a section on a desk that is a no-parking zone. This is a space where nothing is going to be there when not working on it. You should consider getting a wall shelf so you can use it to store things that are non-essential.

4. Reducing visual clutter

Even if your desktop is in an orderly manner, you might not be as efficient as you want if there are a lot of things on it competing for your attention. There are those who like sticky notes and put them on the computer monitors and desks. Having one or two sticky notes is fine, but they become a distraction when you put a lot of them. You will have a hard time concentrating on what is important.

5. Adding a personal touch

Your space needs to be clean, but not sterile. Your workspace should have things that make you happy. It is okay to have a couple of meaningful objects on your desk – cartoons, photos, favorite action figurine, or inspirational quotes – on your bulletin board, wall, or desktop. Make sure you keep them at a minimum because you don’t want your desk to look unprofessional and messy.

6. Going digital

Paper is the main cause of clutter on your desk. There are digital versions of things like calendars, memo pads, and to-do lists and you can sync them with your smartphone so you can always have them on the go. Digital productivity tools are great because they come with a lot of features like notifications, and you can set up alerts for appointments, meetings, and tasks.

7. Checking under your desk

Legroom is very important, but many don’t realize it. The cables and cords under the desk make things messy and can also be a safety hazard. Use cord tamers and Velcro wraps to prevent tangles, which will leave you with more wiggle room for your feet. If your files are on the floor, move them to a filing cabinet. Another option is digitizing them then shredding the papers.
