Planning and packing are the two key elements that contribute to smooth moving. The fragile items need special care during packing, and unfortunately, most homeowners often falter on this account especially when they plan to pack everything by themselves. If you decide to take the onus of packing on yourself instead of depending on the experts then the following tips for packing fragile items like drinking glasses, plates, lampshades, and artwork should ensure proper packing.

Drinking glasses

Drinking glasses

You must use the right kind of box for packing drinking or wine glasses which tops the list of fragile items. Use only a dish pack box that has double the wall thickness and thus offers complete protection. Wrap each glass with wrapping paper by rolling it over the paper placed horizontally starting from the corner. Complete the wrapping by tucking the sides of the paper into the glass like a burrito. Wrap each glass with 3-5 sheets of packing paper and label it ‘Wine Glass.’ Place the glasses vertically in the box after cushioning the bottom of the box with crumpled paper.

Plates

Wrapping plates with adequate number of packing paper just like glasses is the only way to ensure proper protection of plates when moving home. Place the wrapped plates in a dishbox after labeling the packages ‘Plates’. Besides cushioning the bottom of the box with crumpled paper tape the box securely at the top and bottom. For proper safety, use several strips of tape in both directions so that the packing is secure. Place a single layer of plates vertically in the box. Repeat the layers until the box is full. Fill the empty spaces of the box with crumpled paper.

Lamp Shades

Moving home

Lamp shades are prone to damage in transit due to its odd shape and large size that makes its packing quite challenging. Lamp shades can get torn or dented, and the only way to protect it is to wrap it with an eco-bubble wrap to cover every inch. Use packing paper and not a newspaper to fill the cavity of the lampshade and stuff the empty spaces of the box with plenty of packing paper to keep the lampshade steady in its position.

Artwork

Providing enough cushioning in the packing box can save artwork from damage during transportation. Do not leave any gap at the top of the box and stuff it tightly with packing paper or eco-bubble wrap. Use a picture box meant for packing artwork and cushion the bottom with crumpled paper.
It is best to do some packing by yourself while leaving the rest to experts.
