Cleaning Scorched Iron

Before you start cleaning the iron, you want to make sure there is no piece of fabric sticking to the iron. Let the iron cool first, and then use tweezers or something similar to get rid of the melted fabric that has attached stubbornly to the iron.

Unless all the fabric has been detached from the iron, you cannot clean the iron. Nor can it be used properly again. After you have removed the material, you can use any of the techniques listed below to clean it properly.

1 . Laundry Detergent

If your iron’s soleplate is a non-stick one, then a laundry detergent of the liquid nature is all you need to clean the iron. Pour warm water into a small bowl, and then add two drops of laundry detergent to it.

Then, use a clean cloth to dip it into the water solution and then scrub the soleplate. Don’t forget to dry the iron with a towel before you think of allowing electricity anywhere near the appliance.

2. Metal Polish

In the absence of a coated iron plate in iron, a metal polish solution can be the solution you need to clean it. Add drops of metal polish to the iron and then rub it with a rag until you notice the scorch marks disappearing. Once you are done, use a dry cloth to wipe off any sticky bits left behind.

3. Baking Soda And Lime Juice

This is one of the toxic-free and inexpensive methods. The acid produced by lime and combined with how the soda acts as an abrasive of the gentle kind, your iron will not only be free of scorch marks, it will look new.

Add lime juice to the baking soda to create a paste of sorts. Then, apply the paste to the burnt area on the iron. Now, leave it on for about 5 minutes. After the designated time has passed, swipe a section to see if it is working and if the stain is coming off.

Once you have your confirmation, keep on rubbing the paste until the bottom area is well and spotless. You can wash the paste left behind with a damp washcloth and then let the iron dry.

4. Dish Soap

Sometimes, the scorch marks get into the vents of the iron. In that case, make a solution with dish soap and warm water. Let the mixture cool to create a soapy solution. Then, take out some cotton swabs and dip them into the solution.

Now, rub the scorched plate and the vents. Cotton swabs are an excellent choice for cleaning as they can reach the areas where washcloths normally wouldn’t. Once you have dealt with the stain, dry it off with a clean cloth. As for vents, let them dry in the air.

If you use this method, try not to use the iron for the day until the vents are completely clean.
