1. Optimise Laundry Storage

A single storage unit designed for your individual needs and space will make your laundry space more functional. Mix and match cupboards, drawers and shelving to suit your needs.  Choose door style to match the look of your home. Shaker style doors are aesthetically pleasing and suit most homes. For a more simple and contemporary look consider flat panels. Trends in 2022 will be combining two door styles in your laundry pace. Beaded doors combined with flat doors are a favourite.

Another current trend is floor to ceiling cupboards. This avoids wasted space, especially in a smaller laundry, and is the perfect way to declutter and hide messy odds and ends or rarely used household items. This extended laundry cupboard will provide a minimalist and streamlined feel to your laundry. They make a small  room appear larger, especially when choosing white or light coloured doors.

2. Pull Out Or Fold Down Ironing Board

Let’s face it, nobody likes ironing and the thought of having to get out a heavy ironing board can make us want to choose a different outfit altogether! Not only is an older style ironing board inconvenient and bulky, they also take up space and create an eyesore in your home.

A pull out or fold down ironing board is a favourite in the modern laundry renovation because they reduce clutter and take up minimal space. Simply open the ironing board, iron your clothes and put it back into place. Either attached to the wall or installed as a drawer, this type of ironing board should be a laundry necessity!

3. Tapware

Have some fun and add some glamour and elegance to your laundry Sutherland Shire. Brushed brass makes a bold statement and gives an instant high-end look. Matt black and gold are also more popular than classic silver in 2021.

A designer gooseneck mixer is a practical option, especially if you want to wash your pets in the laundry tub!

4. Add Hanging Rails

A hang rail positioned underneath an overhead cupboards is a handy and practical way to use an otherwise empty space.

Use it while ironing your shirts or to hang clothes to dry on a rainy day.  For ultimate functional design consider placing the railing above your sink. so it can be used to drip dry your delicate garments.

5. Hidden Hamper

Although there are many stunning looking laundry hampers on the market, they still tend to make your laundry look messy and cluttered, especially when filled with dirty clothes! A hidden hamper is the obvious solution, combining minimalism and clever storage.

Ideally your hamper will be positioned near the washing machine and, for ultimate organisation, your laundry design could include three hampers for colours, blacks and whites.  If you have a two story home the hamper can also be combined with a laundry chute.

6. Add Greenery

Plants add personality! Potted plants will make your laundry space look less sterile, especially in a white laundry! Plants clean the air and boost your mood.

Even if you don’t have a green thumb, your laundry plants have a high chance of thriving given you see them often and have easy access to your laundry tap! Some easy low maintenance options include:

  • Devil’s Ivy is a favourite as a hanging plant either over a ledge of attached to the ceiling.
  • Spider plant – it will produce shoots that can be easily replanted in another pot or the garden.
  • Peace lily has a stunning green leaf and white flower, but be careful as these are toxic to cats.
  • Philodendron – these don’t need much watering and are the king of low maintenance.
  • ZZ Plant – the king of indestructible plants, these are excellent for low light laundries.
  • Snake plants can tolerate low light and can go months without water.
