Furniture is a big part of our household. It’s not only useful to us but also increases the overall beauty of the house. Thus, we end up expending a lot in search of the right furniture. However, we’re not done yet. We have to make sure that the furniture withholds its beauty. For that, we have to keep the furniture neat and clean. We cannot just go and replace the furniture every time it stains.
Maintaining the fabric is one of the crucial things to think about if you want to increase the longevity of your furniture. You can always go for leather instead of fabric, but leather is more prone to scratches and damages, and you can’t do much to fix them. You can try to avoid damaging the furniture, but maintaining fabric furniture is just an easier option. So, here are some ideas that I believe will make this job a bit easier for you –
1. Choose the Right Fabric
If you have guests coming over to your house all the time, then your furniture might get dirty more often than others. Moreover, if the fabric of your sofa and other furniture are of any vibrant colour such as white or yellow, then they are going to get dirty very easily.
Fabrics that are rich in artificial fibres are more durable and stain-resistant as opposed to fabrics with natural fibres. Synthetic fibres tend to be stronger than natural fibres and they don’t hold stains as much either.
2. Use Stain Guards
Using a Stain Guard is one of the best ways to protect your furniture’s fabric from being stained. It’s certainly better than covering up the stain with a towel or something else. Stain guards waterproof your furniture and protects them from any kind of spill. Even if you end up getting a stain, it will be easier to clean if you use a stain guard beforehand.
Also, in case you end up with a stain, use a stain remover as soon as possible before that stain gets permanent.
If you don’t want to use a stain guard on your furniture, then you can try getting furniture that uses stain-resistant fibres. Some furniture upholstery use fibre that goes through stain-resistant treatment beforehand. Thus, you can choose them instead if you want.
3. Clean the Furniture Regularly
Stain guard will make sure that your furniture doesn’t stain. However, you’ll still have to clean your furniture regularly to get rid of the dust and dirt particles. It’s recommended that you clean up your furniture once a week. It’ll keep your furniture clean from dust and also get rid of any kind of allergens from the fabric and improve the overall air quality of your room. Using a vacuum cleaner will help you in this case to clean the corners of your furniture that are otherwise hard to reach. In terms of cleaning pet hair from your furniture upholstery, you can use a lint roller.
4. Use Covers
Covers can, not only help you protect your furniture from staining, but they can also increase its beauty. Many beautiful covers are available nowadays for all kinds of furniture. In this case, also, be sure to choose the right fabric. Beautiful soft fabric covers are both elegant and comfortable. You can have multiple covers for our furniture and interchange them from time to time to give your furniture a new look. Furniture covers also make the cleaning job easy in case they get soiled somehow.
5. Seek Professional Help
There’s no shame in accepting the fact that professionals may do a better job at cleaning or removing stains from your furniture than you. They may be equipped with better equipment and technique than you. Also, they know how to treat your furniture properly so that the fabric doesn’t get damaged. They even know how to stain guard your furniture upholstery properly so that it doesn’t get damaged or the texture doesn’t get ruined. However, a professional cleaning can be expensive. So, it’s up to you to decide if you want to do it by yourself or do you want the professionals to take care of it for you.
Furniture is expensive to come by. That’s why you must know how to take care of it properly. These tips might make that task easy for you even if a little bit.
