IMPORTANT: the success of an interior designer is based on the success of his projects and on satisfied clients. If you ruin your reputation at the beginning of your career, you risk losing orders for several years.
Computer programs
At a minimum, you will need drawing and visualization programs to get the job done: ArchiCAD, AutoCAD, 3Ds Max, SketchUp, and Adobe Photoshop. Each of these programs is a complex and versatile tool that takes time and effort to master.
Communication skills
These are important both when negotiating with a customer and when working with suppliers and contractors. It is important to be able to hear people, interact with them, make compromises. The job of an interior designer is a bad choice for misanthropists.
Artistic skills
Oddly enough, you don’t have to know how to draw to become an interior designer. Sure, being able to quickly sketch out a rough concept of a new environment for a client is a useful skill. But it is not the key – the graphic embodiment of your ideas will help create programs. And if you later feel the need to learn how to draw, courses of sketching or quick drawing will always help you. Much more important is your understanding of the color palette and color combination.
