5 Essentials of a Realtor Resume

The basic principle of the real estate industry is enamoring the client with your skills to close key deals. However, closing deals and charming the prospects does take a toll on realtors and such skills are very hard to master.

So, having such expertise will make you a great realtor but it can cause problems if you are unable to showcase them in a resume.

In this guide, you will learn the five essentials of a real estate resume that will dramatically boost your chances of getting shortlisted for the target profile.

Let’s begin.

Writing a resume summary

A resume summary is the crux of your entire resume and professional achievements. Though it can be a daunting task to write a summary as it limits you to mere 3-4 lines.

You can streamline the processing of curating a summary by choosing pointers and accomplishments that are in line with your target profile.

As the summary needs to be placed at the very top of the resume and right below your name and contact information, it is an ideal place to display job-related information.

Check the example below to help you gain an understanding of writing a stellar summary”

“4+ years experienced Licensed Real Estate Agent with a prolific record of bolstering the agency’s sales. Proficient in utilizing interpersonal skills to understand the needs of the prospects and finalize properties to show. Skilled at leading property transactions to derive revenue generation and improving practices to enhance market share.”

Include your skills

Showcasing your skills properly plays a major role in defining your chances of landing the job. Nearly every real estate agent can write the work experience section that exhibits their job responsibilities. But you need to showcase your core competencies as well.

You can achieve this by creating a separate section for your skills and include the keywords of the tasks you performed throughout your professional tenure.

For example, here are some skills that a real estate agent should include in their resume:

  • Lease & Contract Negotiation
  • Property Pricing
  • Budget Management
  • Real Estate Marketing
  • Client Scouting
  • Stakeholder Management

The idea behind this section is showcasing your industry skills. However, make sure that you do not add proficiencies that you cannot validate during the interview.

Make a professional experience section

To make a solid resume that catches the attention of the recruiter, you need to think about its readability. Recruiters will most likely spend nearly 6-10 seconds to screen your resume. Hence, you need to make sure that you include information in a manner that passes this test.

Here is how you can achieve that:

Framing points:

Most candidates often try to communicate their professional achievements with long paragraphs. Even though some professionals do make bullet points, it ends up being all about the job duties.

You should not mention your job duties while framing points. Try to incorporate the STAR (situation-task -action -result) format to emphasize the results of the tasks you performed.

Refer to the example below:

“Managing 15+ high-end apartments in the Pasadena area with a revenue generation of USD 2+ million”

The example cites contributions along with numbers and figures. You need to highlight your achievements by using such numbers. For example, if you drafted rent reports  specify how many reports did you make? In case, you are not sure about the exact number, use an approximate figure.

Bucketing

Bucketing & Bolding:

Highlight the important information and numbers in all your statements. This will help you ease the
recruiter’s work as they would not have to explicitly look for your achievements. Further, writing 7-8 points in one go is not ideal even if you have bolded the information.

You can improve the readability of your resume by clubbing 3-4 statements with relevant sub-headings. For example, buckets for a realtor resume can be “client relationship & price negotiation”, “prospect identification & budget management”.

Optimize your resume to beat the ATS

A well-optimized resume is not just about including the tasks you performed and core-skills. It has to do with beating the applicant tracking system (ATS). It is a software that helps organizations screen resumes with respect to the job-related keywords.

Generally, the keywords can be found in the job description. Hence, all you need to do is go through the job post and understand the requirements. Let’s say it requires you to possess skills in “identifying vendors that are selling properties”. You can highlight this skill in your resume and improve your chances of landing the job.

Further, make sure you choose an ATS-optimized resume template. For instance, if you add generic tables and pictures, it is highly likely that the ATS will not be able to parse this information. Hence, use bullet points and professional fonts such as Calibri, Arial.

Add your certification

Writing information about your license/certification is highly critical to your profile. Especially when you are an entry-level professional.

Here is how you can include your licenses on your resume:

“Real Estate Brokers License | National Association of Realtors | Pasadena, California | Mar ’15”

certification
